Hi, I’m Ellen Jones.

What’s Eccentricities?

Eccentricities is a regular newsletter about the outsiders, unconventional existences & people who are eschewing societal norms from a queer, feminist & disabled perspective.

Who are you?

I’m a queer, autistic twenty-something trying to survive & (hopefully) thrive in a world I am seemingly always at odds with. For the longest time, I tried to make myself fit, to quash my eccentricities. No more.

I am best known for the campaigning work I did as a teenager in LGBTQ+ rights for which I won an MTV EMA Generation Change Award and Stonewall’s Young Campaigner Of The Year.

Today, I work as a cultural strategist, consultant and writer focusing on building inclusion and equity for LGBTQ+ people and disabled people across the globe. I am also a regular speaker & panel host; you can find me everywhere from The Guilty Feminist to Cambridge Speaker’s Union.

I have bright purple hair, insist on saying hello to every single dog I see (yes, really) and have been known to identify Doctor Who episodes solely by the sound of the Tardis door opening.

Why Substack? How does this work?

Despite growing a curious and compassionate community interested in LGBTQ+ and disabled joy on Instagram, the platform and its algorithms have consistently hidden my work; on a post about trans rights, fewer than 5% of my followers would see post. On Substack, my views exceed my followers and my engagement rate can be as high as 85% on emails. The alone alone speak for themselves.

Here on Substack, people who have followed me can actually see and interact with my articles, resources and art without my having to worry about upsetting an algorithm.

How does this work?

Every so often, you’ll receive an email from me filled with words to inspire, provoke & comfort, often with a disability, mental health or queer lens.

Paying subscribers get access to exclusive access to all new writing, full archive, book giveaways & more. You will also be providing immense support for all the work I do and give away for free the cost of an Iced Oat Latte. As a thank you for reading this far, here is a code for 20% off.

What if I’m low-income? Can I read any of your work?

If you are on a low income to support my work but would like access to either a specific resource or all of my newsletter, I have a number of memberships available at a discounted rate. Please get in touch with me at info@ellen-jones.co.uk to arrange this.

You can also support my work by sharing, commenting and encouraging others to subscribe. All these things are valuable and free ways to support me.
